7)      To manage international projects on Iranian Canids.

To upgrade information exchange with scientific centres.

Iran  is  a  land of  rich  nature  having  different  kinds  of  animal  species, including more than 160 mammal species . The Diversity of species belonging to canid family is very great.

Researching about this canids is an important and intact subject that unfortunately has allocated less amount of interest and attention.

In general, we could divide these animals into two main groups.

1-     Domestic canid

2-     Wild canid

DOMESTIC CANID

Investigation regarding the first group could be very  vast and extensive.

In most areas of Iran we could find some of these dogs which are very exclusive and special.

During the centuries, depending on their value,  they have been breed purely by owners. But today they live in poor life conditions due to the immigration of farmers, cattle herders and local hunters to the towns and industrial centers and this has damaged their population so that their race is likely  to become  extinct, such as  Salukuis  (tazis) which are going to become extinct in the near future.

It is useful to mention that the first activity about domestic canid in IRAN has been done by a German fellow named Heinrich Beerlage in 1956 with the cooperation of  Mr. Akbar Saremeddowleh.

He established the TAZI  CLUB IRAN and began breeding all races of hunting and racing dogs especially Persian salukis and conducted valuable research in this field. During that time many salukis were exported to abroad by this club to take part in dog racing competition and some of these dogs were winners of those races.

Since then, there has not been any more investigation in Iran regarding these domestic canids.

For this reason our committee has decided to undertake a thorough investigation about these beautiful creatures.

WILD  CANID

Some of the activities of Iranian Canid Committee include research and investigation about wild canids.

Among these canidae family in Iran we could refer to the following species:

1_ IRANIAN    WOLF            (Canis Lupus Pallipes)

2_ GOLDEN     JACKEL        (Canis aures)

3_COMMON   FOX                ( Vulpes  vulpes)

4_ SAND        FOX                 ( Vulpes  rueppellii)

5_CORSAC     FOX                ( Vulpes corsac)

6_BLANFORD’S    FOX        (Vulpes cana)

In spite of  that, wild canid family in Iran consist of 6 species and they are observed in various  parts of this country, however, their population is not so much that we could consider it plentiful.

For example, most of the maps show IRANIAN WOLF distribution in many different areas but their race is highly in danger of extinction.

Uncontrolled hunting, poisonous bait, hunting by motorcycle and trapping are some of the means help to the extinct this beautiful animal for getting its hide.

Unfortunately due to lack of awareness and misunderstanding of people regarding these animals added reasons to help to the worsen current.
